These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

The final season stars Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O.T. Comedy special James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome premieres on HBO November 23. James Acaster explores his love/hate relationship with standup by relinquishing control of his set and accepting a healthy dose of audience interference – aka heckling. With his wiry observational eye and incomparable wit, Acaster shares hilarious on-the-fly meta-analysis of his own material, along with stories from his childhood that spurred him to pursue a career in comedy – from his participation in his grandmother’s spinning wheel workshop at school to his impersonation of Prince Charles at age six. In front of an obliging audience at the Royal & Derngate theatre in Northampton, England, Acaster unleashes his infectious energy as he delves into what initially drew him to the stage and what keeps him there.

Very Scary People premieres on ID December 15. Hosted by Donnie Wahlberg, the series gives viewers a look inside society’s most evil minds. Asura, a modern take on the classic Japanese family drama, premieres January 9 on Netflix. Set in 1979, the story follows four sisters – Tsunako, Makiko, Takiko, and Sakiko – whose lives are shaken by the discovery of their aging father’s affair. Like the “asura,” demigods in Buddhist cosmology, these women embody a whirlwind of emotions, clashing fiercely yet sharing moments of profound connection. As they navigate their differing views on love and life, their journey is marked by both conflict and growth.

True crime docuseries Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae premieres November 26 on hulu. The series examines the murder of Annie Mae Aquash – a Mi’kmaq woman from Nova Scotia, Canada, a mother of two daughters, a teacher, and a revolutionary who fought for Indigenous rights in the 1970s and whose death went unsolved for almost 30 years. Set between the sweeping landscape of American politics in the volatile 70s and the present-day investigation by Annie Mae’s daughter to uncover secrets from the past, this is a fascinating story of murder, intrigue, love, and betrayal that contextualizes Annie Mae’s story within the larger story of the struggle of Native and First Nations women in their own communities that continues even today.

Human Vs. Hamster premieres on Max November 21. It is a cheeky eight-episode competition series where the world’s most remarkable pet hamsters go toe-to-toe with teams of humans in scaled challenges that will test their speed, strength, agility – and, of course, their eating prowess – all for the sake of answering the burning question: “Which species is superior, humans or hamsters?” The team who wins the most challenges against the hamsters moves on to an epic obstacle course – The Cage – where they must escape before the hamsters to win. Sarah Sherman will host with football commentator Kyle Brandt, plus television personality Brian Balthazar as the resident hamster enthusiast.

Holiday comedy special Jeff Dunham’s Scrooged-Up Holiday Special premieres November 19 on Prime Video. The special is inspired by Dunham’s vision to recreate the beloved holiday story, A Christmas Carol, with his iconic characters in the classic roles. Walter is obvious – there’s only one man who can play Scrooge! But when Jeff assigns Bubba J, Peanut, Little Jeff and Achmed their thespian parts, they don’t quite agree and his plan spins hilariously out-of-control during this stand-up comedy special.

The upcoming second season of Netflix’s Ryan Murphy’s anthology series “Monster” has made an exciting casting decision that promises to bring an added layer of intrigue to the show. Fresh talents Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, two promising actors, will be stepping into the roles of the notorious Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle respectively.

Deadline was the first to break the casting news.

Following a captivating first season that delved into the life of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, “Monster” is shifting gears to explore the chilling story of the Menendez brothers. These siblings, who were convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents, claimed their actions were driven by years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The case, which continues to evolve in real-time, recently took an unexpected twist when the Menendez brothers sought a new hearing based on allegations made by former Menudo band member, Roy Rosselló, against José Menendez.

As the extent of the Menendez brothers’ lives that will be featured in Season 2 remains a mystery, Netflix is simultaneously planning a documentary feature on the duo for a more comprehensive view of their lives and crimes. This dual narrative approach sets an interesting stage for the upcoming season.

The casting of Nicholas Chavez as Lyle Menendez is an inspired choice. A relative newcomer, Chavez quickly made a name for himself in the acting world with his riveting portrayal of the troubled Spencer Cassadine in the long-standing soap opera “General Hospital”. His excellent work in the show earned him a Daytime Emmy® for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama and the 2021 Soap Hub Award for Favorite Newcomer. In 2023, he was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor. His rise to prominence was further highlighted when People Magazine featured him in their “People’s Ones to Watch” section in 2022.

Chavez, a Houston-born actor who grew up primarily in Denver, has always been drawn to performing. After spending some time at the Rutgers performing arts program, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time. This dedication is clearly paying off as he navigates his way through the industry, recently appearing as Jason in the Tubi original film “Crushed”. Off-screen, Chavez enjoys playing chess and traveling, showcasing his diverse interests beyond acting.

Cooper Koch, who will be playing Erik Menendez, has also started making waves in the industry. Koch’s previous work includes a role in Season 1 of the Starz drama “Power Book II: Ghost,” and horror films “Swallowed” and “They/Them”.

Netflix and Murphy’s representatives have refrained from commenting on the casting, but it’s understood that the selections were finalized before the writer’s strike. Murphy, the co-creator of “American Horror Story,” hasn’t been involved in any project activities since the walkout. Despite this, the anticipation for “Monster” Season 2 continues to build, promising viewers a season that is as enthralling as it is chilling.

Daytime television icons Susan Lucci and Maury Povich will be awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honors at the upcoming 50th Daytime Emmy Awards. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) made the announcement on June 16, 2023, stating that both honorees have made significant contributions to the daytime television industry.

Susan Lucci, celebrated for her role as Erica Kane on ABC’s “All My Children,” has a history with the Daytime Emmy Awards. Before finally clinching a win, she had previously been nominated 19 times. Reflecting on the Lifetime Achievement honor, Lucci expressed her humility. “I am truly humbled to receive this esteemed award from the Academy,” she said. “Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside exceptional talents and embraced by my fans that have been with me every step of the way. This honor is not just a reflection of my journey, but a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the profound connection we are so lucky to forge with audiences all over the world through television.”

Meanwhile, Maury Povich, known for his syndicated talk show “Maury” which ran from 1998 to 2022 following “The Maury Povich Show” (1991-1998), conveyed his surprise and gratitude at the recognition. “I’m just blown away by this honor from the Academy. I have always had great respect for its work as I served on the National Board and was President of the New York Chapter. I guess if you hang around long enough, some good things happen. It’s been a 60+ year ride for me in this business, so I feel extremely blessed with this acknowledgment.”

In addition to announcing the Lifetime Achievement honorees, NATAS revealed the 2023 Gold and Silver Circle inductees. Tanya Hart, Wendy Riche, Al Schwartz, and Vernée Watson will be welcomed into the Gold Circle, while Christina Knack and Patrick Weiland are set to join the Silver Circle. All these individuals are recognized for their enduring contributions to daytime television.

The award ceremony, initially slated for June 16, was postponed due to a writers strike. The new date will be announced in due course, and it will see the celebration of the Lifetime Achievement and Gold and Silver Circle honorees.
