  • The Man in The Orange Shirt presents the second of its two part story.   And we quickly learn why the first part is the superior one.

PICKS AND PANS

Days of Our Lives (U.S.)

This murder mystery is still boring.  The new writing team really should have ended it quickly instead of dragging it out.  It’s just so tedious.  And the flashbacks are poorly done.   The only thing that got my attention this past week was Paul’s nipples poking through his blue shirt.  That’s not a good thing.

Emmerdale  (U.K.)

Amazing how easily manipulated these people are by Robert after everything he’s done to them.  But I guess his plans can’t work if they don’t keep falling for it.  Though for the characters to keep being so gullible is bad writing.

I don’t mind scheming Robert, but the thing is it won’t last.  Because he can’t be ‘evil’ and be with Aaron at the same time.  The show writes it that Robert is only bad when he can’t have Aaron.  But Aaron being a check on Robert’s darker side has proven to be boring.  And it will be again.  Why can’t we have both?   Also, can’t Robert be bad without trying to kill folks or risking people’s lives?  That’s the problem I had with him before.  There are some things that, as a viewer, I can’t get past.

Aaron looked actually annoyed and put out that Robert wasn’t begging him to take him back.  Just means he will eventually.

Why does Aaron get to live in the house and Robert has to leave?   Didn’t he and Robert buy the house together?  Or did Aaron use the money from his father to play for it?

Aaron still needs a story, something to occupy his time other than drinking with Adam.  Maybe a new man?  That would be fun.

I know that Lawrence is on his way out of the show, but couldn’t they just have Ronnie make a quick return so they could go off and have a happy ending?   Lawrence may not deserve it, but Ronnie sure does.  Oh well, I’m sure Lawrence will probably be killed off, which is so predictable.

Neighbours  (Australia)

I like that the show is letting Aaron and David have this bit of happiness after months of them working to get together.  I love how in all of their scenes they can’t seem to stop touching each other.  That’s very real and romantic in new relationships.  But I don’t need them to be happy for too long.  That’s just not soapy!

River City  (Scotland)

So… that’s Robbie’s exit?  Well, it was all rather non-dramatic and sudden after everything that’s happened on the last few months.   And Robbie hasn’t been a hairdresser in maybe a good year but he gets a job as a hairdresser for celebrities?   Sure.

I know it was the actor’s decision to leave after being on the show for 9 years and who could blame him?  There wasn’t much left for Robbie to do.  I never really cared for the character and I was completely bored with him after Will left.   I hated his dull relationship with Gary and his relationship with Stevie, who he had no business being with, reeked of them being the only two gay men in town (which, thankfully, another character actually pointed out).

Worst of all, after the long running story of Robbie’s drug addiction, the show in the end dropped the whole plot, I’m guessing because the actor was leaving.  But they could have at least have wrapped it up somehow after Robbie’s overdose.  But in the end I agree with the character (and the actor) it was time for him to move on.

The actor hinted in his exit interview the show will bring on a new gay character and I have no doubt they will.  River City has always had gays in lead stories.  I look forward to whoever it’s going to be.

  • Hollyoaks revealed that Ryan is bisexual this past week, which oddly enough clears him of Amy’s murder.  If Ryan didn’t do it, then who did?  And why is James acting so shifty?

  • Plus, the latest on EastEnders, Holby City and Emmerdale!

All this — and more!

PICKS AND PANS

EastEnders (U.K.)

It was nice seeing Pam again.  I wish she and Les had of never been written out.  I’m glad she still considers Ben part of her family and wants to be close to him.  I hope her visit means Ben is going to finally move on.  Paul has been dead for a long time and Ben is young.  It’s time he met someone new and had a new romance.  I don’t need it to be Johnny, even though both Ben and Johnny need love lives.

Emmerdale (U.K.)

Robert and Aaron were supposedly on vacation, but those tans they have look really fake.  Very orange.

I like that Victoria didn’t try to pressure Rebecca to have the baby just because of her own issues about having kids.

Robert and Aaron’s bed seems awfully small for two grown men.

Seems like Aaron forgave Robert really fast.  But I guess that was for him to be hit with the baby reveal.  I’m sure he’ll get over it.  Once a man has tried to kill you and you stayed with him anything can be forgiven.

I think there was a lot of good acting by everyone for the double reveals.  Ryan Hawley and Danny Miller were excellent as always.  But this story is so lazy and predictable.  And we know that it ends with Aaron delivering that baby and Rebecca dying sometime afterwards so Robert and Aaron can play daddies.  Once she’s given birth, she has no purpose.  For some reason soaps always have to stick gay men with children.  That’s what will happen again.

At least the characters are showing some growth.  Robert told Aaron the truth when he didn’t have to and Aaron didn’t run out and do drugs or hurt himself after hearing that truth.  That’s nice.

BTW, whether she’s pregnant or not, someone should tell Robert you don’t grab and manhandle women.

I wish Rebecca was better written. Her character is all over the place.  The show has her changing motives and emotions depending on the scene.  I think trying to play her as a sympathetic victim is a bad choice and makes her boring.  A scheming vixen is much more interesting.  Certainly watchable.  But pick a path and stick with it, shall we?

Holby City  (U.K.)

Well, now that we know that Lofty is gay, I guess it won’t be long before he and Dom are circling around each other.  I hope it’s not for awhile though.  The last thing Dom needs right now is a relationship.

And I’d be okay if Lofty and Dom just became friends.  Dom hasn’t had a really good friend since Arthur’s death and a strong friendship with Lofty might be what he needs.  Unfortunately, TV doesn’t work like that.  If you have two gay men on the canvas they eventually have to start hooking up.

As for the story itself, it was perfectly fine, though nothing we haven’t seen before.  It was well acted by Lee Mead though.  I do like that UK shows can have gay/bi character on the canvas like it’s no big deal, sometimes several characters all at once.  US shows still struggle with having one.

Hollyoaks (U.K.)

So Ryan was having an affair with Kyle while Amy was being murdered?  I guess we should be shocked to learn that Ryan is bisexual, but not really.  When Duncan James joined the show, he was teasing that Ryan and Ste could wind up having an affair.  Sadly, that’s probably not a joke.  Every man in Ste’s orbit winds up sleeping with him.  Once the murder mystery is solved, there’s no doubt Ryan and Ste will hook up.  Why Ryan would want Ste is beyond me, but I say that about all the men Ste dates.

But Ryan couldn’t have loved Amy that much.  He cheated on her ALOT and already has someone new warming his bed.  My guess is there will be more ‘evidence’ that Ryan killed Amy and Ryan will have to come out of the closet in order to clear himself.  And was it just me or did Ryan look like he wanted to do Kyle right there in the alley when Kyle confronted him?

Speaking of evidence, did Ste really say he believed Ryan killed Amy because he had a bad temper and was prone to violence?  Has he looked in a mirror?   But now that we know Ryan couldn’t have killed Amy, that’s one more suspect off the list.  So who did do it?  I know the show has James acting shifty, but I don’t think he did it.  I think he just wants to frame Ste for the crime as payback for destroying James and John Paul’s relationship.  It’s not about Amy.

That bickering scene with Nancy and Darren about Kyle was really cute and shows why they are perfect for each other and should never break up again.  I also watched a lot of the Warren/Sienna/Joel story this past week.  It’s really well done.  I loved Sienna saying she knew she and Warren’s spawn would turn out evil so they could only hope for the best.  LOL….  And Jamie Lomas stays hot.

Starting today, fans of the UK soap opera Coronation Street will be able to stream new episodes of the hit drama on BritBox, the new digital streaming service from BBC Worldwide and ITV.

Launched this spring, BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. Created by two British content powerhouses – BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and ITV, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster – the service features iconic favorites, exclusive premieres, and current series and soaps available a day after they air in the UK.

New episodes of Corrie will be available just a day after they air across the pond and ahead of any other U.S.-based streaming service as part of the “NOW” category on BritBox. This will mark the very first time ever that U.S. viewers will be able to keep up with the episodes of the world’s longest primetime drama in near real time. BritBox brought Coronation Street to the service this month especially for the myriad of subscribers requesting the iconic drama since the launch of the service earlier this year.  Each new episode of Coronation Street this season will be available on BritBox for 120 hours after UK debut.

The multi-BAFTA award-winning Coronation Street follows the everyday lives of a tightly knit community and is the UK’s highest-rated soap.  For 57 years, it has combined cult status, popularity and durability, consistently delivering fresh, contemporary storylines ranging from the heart-warming to the explosive.

Soumya Sriraman, President, BritBox, said, “Coronation Street has been the most requested show for our service and we know that subscribers and fans will rejoice now that BritBox not only has the series, but will be running them stateside hours after viewers get to see them in the UK.”

The “NOW” feature really underscores what BritBox is looking to achieve—bringing the most sought after programming to viewers in the U.S. as it airs in the U.K.  No more waiting and no more accidentally tripping over a spoiler on social media before the audience get to see it here in the U.S.

BritBox’s “NOW” feature serves up programming fresh – within 24-48 hours after episodes air across the pond.  “NOW”’s robust roster of programming includes popular soap series such as EastEnders, Emmerdale, Casualty, and Holby City; lifestyle programming including the Easter from Kings; and news and talk shows such as Prime Minister’s Questions, The Papers, and Meet the Author.

Later this month, BritBox will also expand their “Now” category with the addition of Kat and Alfie: Redwater, the EastEnders spin-off featuring the fan-favorite duo as they arrive in the Redwater community where celebrations are in full flow for a lively annual fundraiser that pitches them into the heart of the community.  Kat and Alfie: Redwater will arrive on BritBox on May 18

In addition to their NOW programs, BritBox offers an acclaimed line-up of current and iconic programming across all genres including Classic Doctor Who, Are You Being Served?, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, UK TV hit The Moorside, Anthony Horowitz’ New Blood, and Tutankhamun.  As $6.99 per month BritBox is a service truly fit for a queen.  Launched in March 2017, it is the largest subscription video-on-demand streaming service, with the most comprehensive collection of British television available anywhere in the U.S.

In this week’s edition of Gays of Our Lives:

  • Jack and Charlie embark on a relationship on Shortland Street, but is Jack ready to move on after being hurt by Cam?
  • A new gay comes to Hollyoaks when Nancy’s ex-boyfriend Kyle comes to town. He’s got connections in town, but with who?

  • Dom is reunited with his ex-fiancee on Holby City, which has an effect on his troubled relationship with Isaac.
  • David finally comes out on Neighbours. And that might finally mean a future for he and Aaron. Or maybe not.

All this and more!

PICKS AND PANS

Casualty (U.K.)

I’m not sure what the point of this story was but the only thing I could think is that it could never be told in this country. Jez is a bisexual who basically will sleep with anything (we saw on Holby City that he was ready to have a threesome with Dom and Isaac), but there is no moral judgement of his behavior. In fact, the show seems to find his slutty behavior cute and funny. Jez learned nothing and was already onto his next piece of tail by episode’s end. I did like the bit about Jez clinging to the pipe outside of Kalen’s window, but Elle didn’t hear the huge crash when Jez fell or see the pipe on the ground?

Elle wasn’t upset that her son was gay or sleeping with a grown man, nor did anyone else seemed to be shocked or appalled by it an adult having sex with a 17 year old. Yes, the age of consent is 16 in the UK, but in this country the crux of the story would be the age difference you can bet. I wonder if we’ll see any more of this story. But I doubt it. It seemed very much ‘a day in the life’.

I know a lot of viewers were put off by the fact that Jez is a bisexual who sluts around as if that plays into some sort of stereotype. But I guess I don’t see it that way. Jez is a good looking young man who likes lots of sex. If he were straight, no one would bat an eyelash. So why does he have to be monogamous just because he’s bi so people won’t be ‘offended’?

Days of Our Lives (U.S.)

I didn’t watch the week that Paul and Sonny ‘made love’ (which is a ridiculous phrase for two grown men – or anyone to be using, BTW) but I see that Paul and Sonny are as chaste as ever. They finally say ‘I love you’ and there’s no kiss? They only refer to their having sex in passing? Think that would happen to a straight couple? Nope because in this same episode, a teen couple had an on screen love scene. This double standard is really hard to watch. It’s just infuriating. And given the terrible storytelling I don’t think I can watch anymore until the story changes AND these characters are treated fairly. It’s 2017 and I got better things to do. For now, I’m done.

Greenleaf (U.S.)

Interesting that it was Charity who decided on the divorce, rather than her fooling herself into thinking she and her gay husband could make it work. But does Kevin still think he can change? That’s what is unclear. I do think that they’ll try and have an amicable split, but once her parents get involved, that will be where the real problems start. I bet they try to keep him away from his son.

Holby City (U.K.)
So Isaac has been abusing Dom (off screen) all this time and we just didn’t know about it? I never liked the show’s decision to turn this from emotional to physical abuse, though I guess the show sees it as more dramatic. I kinda thought it was lazy. Oh well. Overall, it was a well done story and Marc Elliot was excellent as Isaac. I did think he and Dom had great chemistry, but that wasn’t the point of the story, I guess. I’m sure Dom will have a new boyfriend eventually. He never stays single for long. Let’s hope he has better luck next time. Ironic that an injury Isaac didn’t cause made Dom go to the police and report Isaac.

I did like Dom going to see Arthur’s grave at the end. I guess that was the show’s way of saying Dom was looking for someone after Arthur’s death (and Isaac was Arthur’s replacement at the hospital) and he thought he found it in Isaac. It was a sad moment (and I miss Arthur), but a nice coda to the story. And I loved the bit where we found out it was Hanssen who put the flyer in Dom’s locker. And yet, how did Kyle notice Dom was wearing makeup when no one else did?

Speaking of which, Kyle certainly has… changed since the last time we saw him, hasn’t he?

  • It’s been nearly a year since Sonny came back to Days of Our Lives and he and Paul have (sort of) been romantically involved since then. But the romance (hopefully) heats up when Paul and Sonny finally have sex. These boys must be bursting.

  • Rhys gets a mysterious letter on Rownd a Rownd. Who is it from and will it have an effect on his relationship with David?
  • Plus, intriguing teasers for next week on Emmerdale that will change Robert and Aaron’s lives forever.

All this and more!

PICKS AND PANS

Holby City (U.K.)

I’m disappointed by the show’s decision to have Isaac start beating up Dom. Yes, it’s realistic, but mental abuse was a much more intriguing and interesting angle for the story to take. I also think it’s harder for someone to break away from than being physically abused. I just think it’s a lazy route for the story to go. I’m assuming it means Isaac won’t be around much longer. Marc Elliot’s stint with the show was to be 6 months and we’re probably about there. So the physical abuse is probably the beginning of the end.

What I’m puzzled/confused by here though is why Dom stayed after Isaac attacked him. Dom was leaving him. Why would he stay after being beaten up? It doesn’t make much sense. Hopefully the show will explain it.

Coronation Street (U.K.)

Billy and Todd still don’t have a story. And that awful girl is still living in Eileen’s house? Ugh.

Well, Todd has definitely changed. He actually came forward with the evidence to clear Phelan? I hope it’s part of some overall plan rather than being ‘nice’. I don’t like ‘nice’ Todd.

Days of Our Lives (U.S.)

So I guess this is the end of the cancer story. The show barely played it and then wrapped it up rather suddenly. But I doubt if it’s really over. I guess this is Adrienne’s decision ‘for now’. I mean, there’s not much story in Adrienne and Lucas as a couple, is there?

I did like Anne’s saying ‘go ahead’ and stepping back when Adrienne said she and Justin and Lucas were in the middle of something. LOL!

Neighbours (Australia)

Between the bad writing and the very poor acting of the woman playing David and Leo’s mom, those were some dreadful confrontation scenes. They haven’t seen their mom for months and David’s first words are “You have to tell us who are Dad is”? Not even a hello? But the bad acting really took a lot out of those scenes. I know the show wanted to get the actress who played the role of Kim Taylor all those years ago, but maybe looking how poorly played those scenes were they might have rethought that decision. Very monotone delivery during some highly emotional moments.

And how come Aaron and David’s scenes aren’t played with a hint of romance or attraction. David goes to Aaron for help. But why? I guess because Aaron helped him before, but there is no acknowledgment that these two have been playing this will they or won’t they for months now. This show has always been conservative about gay relationships, but not this much. What gives?

Emmerdale (U.K.)

Hey Liv doesn’t have to come back as far as I’m concerned. If we never saw her again I’d be just fine.

Greenleaf (U.S.)

So you take something to make yourself sick every time you think about sex or rather sex with another man? Terrible. That’s right up there with electro shock therapy. And sad these practices still happen today. Is this guy running the meetings a doctor or professional? He needs to have whatever license he’s got yanked.

Kevin keeping away from his mother because of his sexuality is very realistic. A lot of kids pull away from their parents rather than have to deal with them knowing they are gay. I wonder though if Kevin’s mom would accept it rather than lose her son if he chose to come out. I got the feeling she would.

Hollyoaks (U.K.)

I don’t believe Ste killed Amy. As much as I don’t like the character and would like to see him gone, the show loves him (for some reason) and this is just the start of a long story. My guess is Ste will go to jail to cover the actor’s reported paternity leave and then come back when Ste ‘remembers’ he didn’t do it after all.

Welp, this show is going to pair James and Scott. James’ motivation for not turning Scott into the cops is weak at best but it’s clear why they are keeping them in the same orbit. I hate it. It makes no sense and there’s no way that James would ever want to be with someone like Scott. But it looks like they are going to go there. Yuck.

I should have figured that despite everything Harry would wind up going back to Ste. He’s even got Tony, who was right about everything he said in regards to why he didn’t want Ste with Harry, pushing them back together. I will never buy that a father would want their son with a guy like Ste.

No judge would give Ste a court order keeping Amy, temporary or otherwise, from taking the kids. Amy has custody. Ste lost custody because of his numerous issues. Yes, it’s all about plot. Certainly not about plausibility.

So I’m guessing eventually they’ll pair Ryan and Mercedes?

I’ll miss Amy. She’s always been one of my favorites. It’s not a bad story though. I’m interested in finding out who did kill her. I hope it’s not Ryan though by the way it played out so far I don’t see how it could be.

Rownd a Rownd (Wales)

Dani’s family take a lot of liberties. Making a key to a house they don’t live in and then Dani’s Grandmother coming over to ‘visit’ and not being helpful. She’s better off without them!

I guess now that he’s affirmed he’s gay (at least with Rhys), David isn’t interested in anything romantic with Dani. He ‘helpfully’ decided to stay in the other bedroom to make it more comfortable for her and he flinched when she touched him. He also didn’t reply when she said she loved him.

But where is Rhys? He hasn’t been on for a couple of weeks. The show seems to be hinting that when David ‘goes to the gym’ or going to some meeting he’s off with Rhys. But why aren’t we seeing it? I know Rhys is back on this week and going forward. But still…. I just hope is completely vanishing isn’t going to be a pattern.

The Fosters (U.S.)

I disagree with Noah here. You can’t be nice or only ‘fight in the right way’ with people who harass and bully you. You take these people down in any way you can and take them down so they can’t get back up. Jude was right to play dirty. I wouldn’t have let Noah guilt trip me. He can either accept it or walk. Playing the rules gets you nowhere. If life has taught us anything in this past year it’s taught us that.

PICKS AND PANS

Coronation Street
Todd’s arms looked great in that tee shirt.

Todd (and Billy) need a real storyline. Todd trying to haunt Phelan is stupid. And I don’t believe Phelan would be all that bothered.

I really think the show should go somewhere with Adam and Todd. Yes, it would be a retread of the Robert and Aaron storyline on Emmerdale that this same producer crafted when she headed that show. But they do have chemistry. They’d be pretty hot together. And Todd needs a bad boy rather than the local vicar — as much as I like Todd and Billy together.

Days of Our Lives (U.S.)

Can the new writing start now? This show is dreadful. I hate this story for Sonny and Paul. I just don’t buy any of it. Sonny would not be a threat to Deimos. He would eat Sonny alive. These scenes are ludicrous. I regret ever saying I wanted to see Sonny get involved in the family business. And again, it’s hard to tell if Sonny and Paul are dating. Their scenes have zero romantic or emotional content.

Does Days realize that being kidnapped more than once in a couple of months is boring and not interesting? Especially when people don’t act like it didn’t just happen! And they spend way too much time looking at computer screens for ‘evidence’ and ‘clues’. This is all so boring. Frankly, I fast forwarded through most of these awful scenes.

Deimos killed Bo and paralyzed Maggie, but they have Victor defending him. I realize that they can’t use Victor as much because of the actor’s age, but do they have to mangle Victor’s character in the process? Victor would have ordered Deimos’ death long ago. Or at least set him up for a return to prison.
I did like the scene with Adrienne and Sonny. They have such a sweet and loving relationship and the actors work so well together.
So Rafe is asking Sonny to do his job for him? Okay.

Sonny keeps saying he’s taking care of Ari, but he’s running around town at the hospital and the police station. Who’s watching the child while he’s out? They could at least casually mention Marlena has the kid or something. She is her great-granddaughter and she’d got nothing else to do.

EastEnders (U.K.)
While a Ben/Johnny romance has always seemed inevitable since the first Johnny was cast in the role, Ben and Johnny sleeping together last week is kind of a surprise given that there wasn’t much build up to it. After all, Johnny has been back for nearly a year since the recast and they’ve had little to do with each other save the aftermath of Paul’s death. But it’s obvious the direction now is that they are meant to be together, convinced they’re best as friends, deciding to play their tryst as a regrettable one night stand. I wouldn’t mind if they just stayed friends, but that would mean bringing on two guys for them as love interests. That would be awesome, but I just don’t see the show doing that. So I guess this is the kick off to their love story.

That was a sweet moment when Ben apologized to his mother and they made plans for a Mother’s Day trip.

It’s nice that Les and Pam keep in touch with Ben. And I like that this beat was used for Ben to remember his relationship with Paul, but realize it’s time for him to move on with his life.
Jay waking Ben up with a poster of a half-naked fireman was pretty funny.

God that Ian is such a drag. Poor Ben. I don’t know why Jane stays with him. And she’s still in the wheelchair from her kid cracking her over the head. Soaps never keep characters disabled for this long.

How weird and random of the show to introduce this Tom guy who we’ve never met or heard of but supposedly has been a friend of Ben and Jay’s for years. I guess that means we’ll probably never see Tom, the sexy paramedic again.

Emmerdale (U.K.)

I knew Chas wouldn’t go through with telling Aaron. It’s too soon for that bombshell. I still don’t think it comes out for a while. Anyway, telling Aaron now while he’s in jail is a horrible idea. For Chas, I think it was more about getting back at Robert than Aaron needing to know the truth. Anyway, it’s a bit much for her to be railing against Robert for cheating and her having to lie to Aaron. She’s cheated on her previous lovers and she’s kept secrets from Aaron. Tone down the outrage, I say.

I’m guessing Rebecca will get pregnant and either not know who the father is or she’ll tell Ross he is, knowing that it’s Robert’s. Her having sex with Robert and Ross happened close enough to where the father would be in question. Her saying Ross is a good father means he’s going to be involved in the pregnancy part of the story. It’ll give Ross something to do and he’s been ill used for far too long.
I still don’t get on what grounds Aaron would win an appeal. He did what he did, there’s no disputing that. Oddly enough, the show didn’t bother to say what those grounds were either.

Holby City (U.K.)

I wondered if Isaac would play a role in the pregnancy storyline, but I didn’t think it would be like that. One of the more interesting aspects of this storyline was that the show didn’t get into the issue about abortion and the right to choose and all that. Not to mention if the man has any say in the decision. That would have been the case in a US TV show where it’s still such a taboo subject.

On a US show, what would have happened is that Zosia would have decided to get an abortion, change her mind and want to keep the baby and then miscarry and feel guilty about wanting to abort her child. You just don’t see shows where a woman aborts her baby and doesn’t feel guilty or ashamed about it.

As for what happened, I suspect that Isaac’s goal was not really breaking up Ollie and Zosia. He wanted her out of Dom’s life and he figured out the best way to do it. Because I don’t blame Zosia for being angry at Dom. He should have never told Isaac anything. And his excuse was flimsy and weak. But like I said, Isaac wants to drive everyone out of Dom’s life who might interfere in Isaac’s control over Dom. He’s gotten rid of one more person.

  • The Haves and The Haves Nots had their spring finale as Jeffery made a horrifying discovery that will change his life forever.
  • EastEnders’ has been teasing a Ben/Johnny romance for months. When forced to deal with their feelings, will these two take the next step?

  • Are Days of Our Lives’ gays Paul and Sonny dating or something? Because judging by their scenes, it’s hard to tell.

All this and more!

PICKS AND PANS

Days of Our Lives (U.S.)
Are Paul and Sonny dating or something? Because judging by these scenes it’s hard to tell. There is not a glimmer, a hint of anything romantic between them. And it’s been like that for a while now. When Sonny is ranting about taking over Paul from Demois and how it’s the most important thing in his life, shouldn’t Paul, as his supposed love interest ask what this means for them as a couple or talk about how it affects their relationship? You’d think so.
If this were a scene between Chad and Gabi or Chad and Abigail or Nicole and Brady or any other straight couple, they’d talk about their relationship. Their romantic relationship would be the key point in the scene, not a undertone not even addressed. In fact, if you tuned into this or any recent scene between Paul and Sonny, you’d never guess they were lovers at one time and were in a so-called relationship now. It’s like Paul and Derrick were having a relationship and sleeping together — off screen — and it was only vaguely referred to once.

This show clearly does not want to write a gay storyline or show gays in a romantic sense. I still wonder why Sonny was brought back or why Paul stuck around for a year for Sonny’s return. I do hope this changes with the new writing regime. If it doesn’t then it’s a decision made by the show and it’s producers and not the writers at the moment. And that’s a much more serious concern than it already is.

I thought the battle of over the business might be interesting, but it’s actually really boring. And it’s hard to take 20-something Chad and Sonny seriously when they talk about running multi-national conglomerates.

Emmerdale (U.K.)
It didn’t take much for Rebecca to jump into bed with Robert. Did she really think that after everything that happened, a drunk Robert wants to get back with her?
I get that Chas is mad at Robert, but she’s cheated on nearly every man she’s ever been with so she knows how stuff like that happens. Yet, she should have never trusted Robert to begin with. I never found that plot point to be believable. But it’s not Chas’ place to tell Aaron. Let Robert do it. Of course, I believe that people don’t always need to know everything. And now is the worst possible time to do it given the circumstances.
But I don’t think Chas or Robert will say anything. It’ll stay a secret. Aaron will get out of jail. And then Rebecca will find out she’s pregnant. Then the real drama will begin. If these writers don’t have Rebecca get pregnant, then they need to have their soap opera writer’s cards taken away. I know fans don’t like it, but there’s so much interesting drama to be mined from it. They’d be fools to pass it up.
Personally, I’m fine with the story twist. There was no way Robert would remain faithful while Aaron was in jail. It’s not who he and this is a soap. And a ‘surprise’ pregnancy is Soap Opera 101.

This stuff with Liv continues to be ridiculous. Robert playing ‘daddy’ is so contrived and forced. Like him going to the school to talk about Liv. Umm, Robert is not her legal guardian. Neither is Aaron, who’s in jail. The school would want to speak to her legal guardian, which is her mother. And now more than ever, it makes no sense and is not plausible that Liv stays at the village. The show writes it that Saundra doesn’t care, but that’s not the character we met when Liv was introduced. Oh and Liv says this was the first school she likes, but she never went to class. Which is it? This is just lazy and sloppy storytelling.
Aaron said he never killed anyone? I guess he forgot killing Jackson or that he was charged with murder and went to trial over that case.

Holby City (U.K.)

Isaac is the classic abuser. Everything that happens, even when Isaac does awful things, is Dom’s fault. Dom made him behave badly is Isaac’s response to his lies and deceits being exposed. And Dom, clearly suffering from low self-esteem, just meekly takes it and stays with a man who is cruel to him. I mean, Isaac knew Dom would never tell what really happened with that guy once he guilted and manipulated Dom into staying quiet, even though Dom was hurting his own career. Sadly, Dom believes he is to blame for what happened so he deserves the fallout.

Isaac would stand by and let Dom’s career be ruined to protect himself. That much is obvious. This storyline is getting more uncomfortable to watch because it’s all too realistic. We’ve all seen or known people in relationships like this. Maybe ourselves.

And I have a feeling Dom won’t get out until it’s too late. I also think that Zosia interfering in Dom and Isaac’s relationship is going to lead to her losing her baby. I just can see that coming. I hope not. But his threatening her seemed to foreshadow that.
