Hello guys, gals, and non-binary pals! The much theorized, discussed, dissected, and anticipated musical episode is finally upon us. Not familiar with the story behind the Broadway musical? Don’t worry, the show will give you the Cliff Notes version pretty early on in the episode.

This episode is mostly about Alice and Betty after officially losing Polly in the previous episode. Alice is deep in her grief and Betty is struggling to drag her mother out of it and keep her focused on reality instead of the fantasy world in her head. In the first musical number there is a particular moment where you see just how deep Alice is into her own head, a theme that continues throughout the entire episode. That being said, while this episode will absolutely break your heart in a multitude of ways, the journey through the ups and downs of grieving and how non-linear it is, is depicted in a beautiful and realistic way. (And no worries. Though there is no shipping fodder in regards to Betty’s ships-because this episode isn’t about that for Betty-, her friends do all come to support her in two different scenes.)

Also, enough cannot be said about how well Mädchen Amick and Lili Reinhart work together not just visually with their acting performances but also in their musical numbers. This comes as an absolute shock to no one, but it needed to be stated anyway.

We also get to meet Tabitha Tate’s parents this week! Though it isn’t stated out-right, it’s pretty clear why the famous Pop’s went from Pop himself to his granddaughter. And let’s not forget the “fake dating” teased in the trailer. Just how far do you think that proposition will go/ how long will it last? After all, it’s not a secret that Jughead and Tabitha share multiple duets this episode which are absolutely perfect for them.

All I can really say about Veronica and Archie this week is that he’s there, she’s there, they’re there, and things are said/done/sang about stuff.

Cheryl fans will love her this episode (and is it just me or is she really just serving look after look this season? All hits, no misses). She has her own musical number with her mother and we get a glimpse at just how the ministry is doing. As for Kevin? He’s a shoulder to cry on for Betty and maybe recent events have him reevaluating things in his life.

Toni also is working overtime stretching her guidance counselor legs to help a student who just can’t seem to catch a damn break. In fact, there is a very direct call-back to one Jughead Jones back in his early season one days.

Crumb Count:

This is hard this episode. Because some are crumbs and some are full on Michelin meal status. Instead of analyzing crumbs based on content from other ships that I think other shippers would enjoy (does that sentence make sense?) this will be based purely on content for each ship within the episode.

Choni: 1.5

Bughead: .5

Kangs: .5

Jabitha: 3

Varchie: 1

Barchie: 1 (.5 + .5)

Veggie: 1.5

Hello and welcome to TVSourceMagazine, home of many shows reviews, previews, and yours truly. Some of you may know me, some of you may not but either way, here’s a quick run down of how I do my thing: reviews are incredibly time consuming and it usually takes me six to ten hours to do a proper full review of recap and snark so long story short: thank your reviewers, folks. It’s definitely work.

That being said I will be splitting my Riverdale work with fellow TVSource alum, Spencer Barrett . We will be teaming up to cover all things happening in the town with pep. My role? As long as screeners go out, I will do these previews. I will aim to have them up the Sunday prior to episode air date (depending on when they go out), I will never break DNRs (that’s “Do Not Reveals” for those not in the know) and I most likely won’t answer any questions you ask, not because I don’t care (I do!) but because you have to be really careful with these things. So, as long as screeners go out (which aren’t guaranteed! Sometimes it’s all of them, sometimes it’s one of them, sometimes they just stop) you can look forward to a little tease about what’s to come. You will find my approach super casual and laid back and if you’re looking for 100% professionalism 100% of the time, well….look elsewhere. I may be press but I still have thoughts and opinions.

But enough about me, I know what you’re all here for so let’s get started.

Riverdale returns with a bang (and no, I shockingly don’t mean between the sheets) picking up right where we left off in season four: a creepy mystery and personal drama. Everyone on the canvas is affected by both of these things whether they’re aware of it or not, just yet. Personally, for an episode called “Climax” I would have expected more explosions. While the episode might be light on those, it’s not necessarily light on implosions.

There’s something to be said about callbacks to previous seasons and you don’t have to be an avid watcher to pick up on the handful that are obvious from the pilot (any fan edit would have the scenes in question). What’s more interesting is a returning thread from season two making its way into the current story. If you think I’m talking about ships, I’m not, but the thread that’s being looped through is dark indeed and hooded in mystery. One may even say it’s so dark it’s black. Where that thread leads isn’t clear but it is intriguing.

Fans may have been toting this premiere as “the prom episode” but alas, very little prom is actually shown. Unfortunate, yes? That’s not to say that there aren’t interesting things happening at prom, it just would have been nice for that portion to have a little more room to breathe. While we do get to see the crowning of the prom royalty (as well as their court) the moments aren’t allowed the significance that they should have had.

For all the shippers out there, there is a little something for everyone. In some instances, I do mean little, but it’s there. Fans can look forward to one character singing a very familiar tune and doing so beautifully, if awkwardly. And man, is it awkward. But as a drama-whore, sign me up. I love to see it.

Some stray thoughts for your consideration:

  • As much as it doesn’t seem so in the time, high school comes with an expiration date and what we think is forever, isn’t.
  • For those who wanted Toni to have more of a prominent role in season five, if the premiere episode is any indication, she definitely will.
  • The word endgame continues to be cringe especially when the people on the other end of it don’t seem to be as secure in their beliefs as the ones saying it.
  • Inserting characters that normally are in the B or C storylines into the A storyline is something that should actually happen on this show more often, especially when it makes sense to do so for plot reasons.
  • Episode rating is a solid seven. To me, the episode doesn’t work as a standalone and there needs to be a better balance between mystery vs personal/interpersonal drama and milestone moments need more room to breathe. That being said, there were some truly beautiful and poignant (both in your face and more subtle) moments and the episode works in an overarching plot kinda way.

Welcome back, good girls (and guys) to TV Source Magazine’s spoiler-lite previews for our favorite NBC dramedy, Good Girls. We are just a few days away from the season three premiere on February 16. Ahead of the premiere, we have some some teasers of what you can expect in the episode “Find Your Beach”.

When we last left off with our girls they had plans to take over the business from Rio who, as you remember, they presumed to be dead after Beth shot him three times. Is he dead? Is he alive? Well, that’s between him and Agent Turner for however long.

GOOD GIRLS — “Find Your Beach” Episode 301 — Pictured: (l-r) Retta as Ruby Hill, Christina Hendricks as Beth Boland, Mae Whitman as Annie Marks — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC)

The new season opens up with a look in to where Beth, Annie, and Ruby are now. They all have new jobs and are continuing to struggle financially while waiting to get their side project up and running. It isn’t as easy as Gang Friend made it look and they’ll have to rely on their wit, skill, and even some help from others to succeed.

The girls aren’t the only one’s with new employment. Both Stan and Dean have taken on new jobs as well in hopes of keeping their families heads above water. Dean is back in sales but out of the car business and Stan has turned in his badge but remains in the security business. And my what a business he is securing.

GOOD GIRLS — “Find Your Beach” Episode 301 — Pictured: (l-r) Christina Hendricks as Beth Boland, Jackie Cruz as Rhea — (Photo by: Mitchell Haddad/NBC)

Beth has befriended Marcus’ mom Rhea in a show of guilt. She took away the father of her child and is doing her best to make it up to mother and son in the only way she knows how. Despite her good intentions it doesn’t ease her mind as much as she would hope (or make any sense to Ruby and Annie) and it doesn’t discount her own struggles with her family. Struggles that her new friend is eager to help assist with.

Ruby and Stan remain marriage and parent goals. Ruby, however, is at her wits end with problems with daughter Sara’s medicine and insurance company. There’s a wonderful scene in this episode that showcases that even when your own world is falling a part you never know what the person on the other end of the phone is going through.

Annie is still…Annie. She lives her life to her own set of rules and some of her past choices have come back to haunt her. She gets a hard look at her own life when son (new name redacted for being too spoilery) makes a passing joke that forces her to reevaluate all of the decisions she’s made before.

Quotables

  • “You bitches just leveled up.”
  • “A llama!”
  • Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
  • “Be good, okay?”
  • I literally don’t know what that means.”

That’s all for now! Make sure to comment below or come yell at us on Twitter @TVSource with thoughts, theories, and other random musings.

Watch Good Girls Sunday Feb.16th, on NBC at 10/9c.

Happy Sunday, Good Girls and Guys! It’s episode day which means it’s time for TV Source Magazine’s weekly spoiler preview! Let’s dive into episode 211 “Jeff”.

Obviously the most important thing is MARY PAT IS BACK! Yesssssss! No? Just me? Okay.

Anyway, Mary Pat is back and we get some insight to her marriage with first husband, Jeff. They seemed happy, their family was solid. However, life proves that it doesn’t matter how happy you are, life is short and tragedy can always strike, even in your front yard. Mary Pat has to make a decision for her family and how they are supposed to continue on. Either way, after the girls realize that the body they dumped isn’t Boomers like they thought it was, they track Mary Pat down and obviously, it’s hilarious. After some persuasion, she tells the whole tragic tale from beginning to end.

GOOD GIRLS — “Jeff” Episode 212 — Pictured: (l-r) Retta as Ruby Hill, Mae Whitman as Annie Marks, Christina Hendricks as Beth Boland — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC)

Mary Pat isn’t the only return we see this week. One of a few actually. But second most important is Miriam. Annie is doing her best to keep helping Boomer’s grandma keep her head above water grocery shopping, doctors appointments, perms, credit card disputes. But these aren’t the only things on Annie’s plate. She now knows that Noah is FBI and has been using her the entire time they’ve known each other. Beth and Ruby encourage her to use this to her advantage but it’s more than clear that Beth is the actress in the family. How long until she cracks? As it turns out, not long at all. She’s just so sick of all of the lies.

Turner isn’t making it easy on Stan and Ruby. First, he shows up at their church. Then he makes some phone calls to some lawyers. As always, our purest ship just can’t seem to catch a break. With the way Turner targets them it makes one wonder if he sees them as the weakest link. Either way, they are back to square one and Stan has put his foot down on a family decision.

GOOD GIRLS — “Jeff” Episode 212 — Pictured: (l-r) Retta as Ruby Hill, Reno Wilson as Stan Hill — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC)

Meanwhile, over at the Bowland’s, Beth and Dean sit their kids down to let them known about their impending split. They seem to take it well. At first. Dean also has a new job at a new dealership but it’s not quite the right fit for him and Beth is surprisingly supportive. It seems these two just had to agree to split to get back on friendlier terms. Also in Beth’s world, it’s coming down to the wire with the FBI closing in on her. While juggling her personal life and work life she also finds out exactly what Rio thinks of her. But is it what she wants to hear?

Quotes:

  • “But if I get kicked in the head, you get kicked to the curb.”
  • “Start talking.”
  • “Have you seen him?”
  • “You’re going to need a good lawyer.”
  • “And if homie gave two craps, you would have heard something.”
  • “You are a terrible grocery store manager.”
  • “I don’t want to work for anyone else.”

That’s it for now. Comment below with theories and spec or hit us up on twitter @TVSource.

Happy Sunday, Good Girls and Guys! There was some debate about this preview going up since there was already an impressive leak earlier in the week but hey, what the hell? Leaks happen. Let’s get started with the preview for “This Land is Your Land.”

GOOD GIRLS — “This Land Is Your Land” Episode 210 — Pictured: Christina Hendricks as Beth Boland — (Photo by: Paul Drinkwater/NBC)

Beth is out of the game but that’s certainly easier said than done. While she’s trying to fit back in to her perfect wife and mother persona it’s not that easy. It’s like trying to fit in to a dress that still looks good but you’re not comfortable in and things just don’t feel right, no matter how it looks. Beth likes danger. She craves being more despite her promises to herself, to her husband, to her lover. While she gives in to temptation in a small way-hey, a girls got to feel alive somehow-whether or not she’ll dive all the way back in? Unknown. Especially when the cops come knocking on her door…or rather, at her family’s business. Also, for my loves that like symbolism? Pay attention to the book that Beth is reading for her legitimate book club and the story behind it. It’s not exactly subtle.

Annie and Ruby may support Beth in her decision to escape their life of crime but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re on the same page as she is. Sadie needs hormone blockers now that he’s officially come out as a boy to his mom and with Stan out of work and surviving only on Ruby’s paycheck times are tough. So, they decide to go with what the know in the form of Gang Friend. With a little help in the excuse of Sara, Annie and Ruby head up to Canada for some ‘book club’ business of their own. Ruby struggles with guilt over what she’s doing and she and Annie butt heads over the best course of action. Needless to say things don’t go exactly according to plan.

GOOD GIRLS — “This Land Is Your Land” Episode 210 — Pictured: (l-r) Mae Whitman as Annie Marks, Retta as Ruby Hill — (Photo by: Jordin Althaus/NBC)

Regardless, Annie has her own come-to-Jesus moment in regards to Noah who isn’t as unflappable as he may appear and Ruby is making it her mission to get Stan out of his funk. We love a supportive wife and mother.

Quotes:

  • “How do we want to do this?”
  • “It was almost….fun.”
  • “Are they too sexual?”
  • “No wonder you’re in a chair!”
  • “But with you? I already know what I’m dealing with so I’m not that damaged.”
  • “What are you doing here?”
  • “I didn’t think we still followed rules around here.”

That’s it for now! Enjoy tonight’s episode on NBC at 10/9c because it is intense and you’ll definitley see why I thought it was the finale.

On Tuesday, Stitchers first season will come to a close. We don’t know about anyone else, but to us, it seems like just yesterday we watched the pilot and fell in love with the crew secretly stitching into dead people’s minds to solve their murders from a hidden lab beneath a Chinese food restaurant.

Thanks to ABC Family, we received an advanced screener of “Full Stop.” As always, we’re not allowed to reveal too much about what unfolds over the hour, but we can say we loved every single minute of it. Be prepared to thank the network for confirming a second season because there’s no way to sugarcoat this: the finale is intense from start to the major cliffhangers (yes, plural) ending.

STITCHERS - "Full Stop" - A shooting leaves Detective Fisher in ICU, and Kirsten on the hunt for the cause in the summer finale of “Stitchers,” airing Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 9:00PM ET/PT on ABC Family. (ABC Family/Eric McCandless) EMMA ISHTA, KYLE HARRIS

Now that we have your attention, let’s talk about what we can say about the episode. First, you may be wondering why network released such spoiler-y pictures (Cameron is unconscious on the floor! Kirsten is terrified! Fisher is bleeding!). This scene unfolds within the first five minutes of the episode and sets off a search for the culprit.

But that’s only part of the story. Keep reading for five more mini-spoilers:

1. Kirsten and Cameron learn more about the origin of the Stitchers program. Will they discover the true intentions behind it that Turner and Maggie have been hiding?

2. Cameron teaches Camille to run a stitch and we also get to see a third person piloting a stitch.

3. Flashbacks fill in more of Kirsten’s past, but she’s not the only one who gets flashbacks in the episode.

4. Remember the episode when Kirsten and Cameron were almost killed on the Santa Monica Pier? There’s more to that story.

5. Cameron has proven time and time again that he will do anything to keep Kirsten safe, but it’s worth paying attention to who does and does not agree to his latest plan.

Stitchers will air its first season finale on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 9/8c on ABC Family.

Ever since Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Ursula (guest star Merrin Dungey) shared a tense reunion greeting the morning after the Queens of Darkness arrived in Storybrooke, we’ve wondered what went down between the two in the past. We’re not surprised a former pirate and a sea monster queen share a history, but so far Once Upon A Time hasn’t given us much in the way of clues. All we know is that Hook told Emma (Jennifer Morrison) his misdeed was much worse than simply breaking Ursula’s heart.

Poor Unfortunate Soul” will shed some light on that mystery this Sunday when Hook offers himself up as bait (pun intended) to Ursula in exchange for information on what the Queens know about Rumple’s (Robert Carlyle) plan. In typical Once fashion, the episode will flash back to the enchanted realms of the past to fill in the blanks. What could possibly be worse than breaking a woman’s heart?

We’re stumped as far as guesses go, but the press release from ABC offered up a few tidbits. A young Ursula (guest star Tiffany Boone) wants to run away from home and turns to Hook for help. But Killian in full Captain Hook mode was not exactly the epitome of trustworthiness. What kind of deal did they make, how did Hook ruin things for her and could this have something to do with why people thought she was nothing more than a myth for so long? It’s also worth noting this episode brings the return of JoAnna Garcia as Ariel and introduces Ernie Hudson as Poseidon. How does the king of the sea fit into the story?

ouat-415-unfortunate-soul-02

Elsewhere in a remote cabin, the Queens of Darkness, along with Rumple and an undercover Regina (Lana Parrilla), are holding a newly returned August (guest star Eion Bailey) hostage. Last week Rumple posed as Hook to trick Belle (Emilie de Ravin) into giving him the dagger so now he’s at full power and desperate for answers about the author. Things look pretty bleak for August, even as the heroes pull out all of the stops to try and track them down. The question is whether or not August actually knows anything about the author. We’re guessing he might since he’s done his research on the book and the curse, but that doesn’t mean he’ll want to share it with Team Evil. Then again, August has made his fair share of questionable choices when his well-being is on the line in the past.

This episode will also bring the much anticipated return of Robin Hood (guest star Sean Maguire). As excited as we are about that Outlaw Queen moment in the promo below, we can’t help wondering how and why the two will be reunited. After all, Robin broke our hearts Regina’s heart when he left Storybrooke with his family at the end of the Frozen arc. Is he a figment of Regina’s imagination or is this part of a flashback? Maybe it’s connected to the author and the potential to change the story? Or, as we fear, perhaps one of the Queens or Rumple is messing with Regina’s head because they don’t fully trust her. We have so many questions so let’s focus on the most important one: Is it Sunday yet?

Once Upon A Time airs Sunday, March 22 at 8/7c on ABC.
