As soap opera enthusiasts are well aware, change is an integral part of the genre’s landscape. Yet, the announcement of Kate Mansi joining the cast of “General Hospital” as the beloved character, Kristina Corinthos-Davis, has still caused quite a stir. Mansi, who received won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Abigail Deveraux-Dimera on NBC/Peacock’s “Days of our Lives,” opened up about her surprising career move in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest.

Mansi shared intimate details from her initial Zoom meeting with “General Hospital’s” executive producer, Frank Valentini, and casting director, Mark Teschner. She expressed gratitude for their commendations regarding her past performances and valued their insights into the unique environment of “General Hospital.”

Assuming the role of Kristina, a complex character caught between two worlds with dysfunctional family dynamics, and one who happens to be bisexual, helping her younger sister deal with a endometriosis diagnosis, is no small undertaking. Yet, Mansi seems to be embracing the challenge with enthusiasm and sensitivity. She acknowledges the importance of respecting the legacy of the character, particularly the contributions of her predecessor, Lexi Ainsworth. In a testament to her considerate nature, Mansi reached out to Ainsworth, whom she calls a friend, ensuring her understanding of the profound respect she holds for her work.

The transition from Ainsworth to Mansi will inevitably be a process for the show’s loyal viewers. Mansi recognizes the complexity of this shift, expressing that her portrayal of Kristina will reflect both continuity and change. Drawing from her personal experiences in the realm of soap opera recasting, she advocates for a nuanced perspective from the fans. She articulates that the daytime drama world is a place where fans can simultaneously appreciate different portrayals of the same character, insisting that love for one actor does not diminish admiration for another.

As Mansi prepares to step into the shoes of Kristina, she expresses gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. She is eager to make her mark on the Davis family storyline and invites viewers to welcome this new wave of change with open arms.

For a more comprehensive glimpse into Mansi’s transition to “General Hospital,” fans are encouraged to read her full interview in the upcoming issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Fans of NBC’s Days of our Lives now have a way to get more content featuring their favorite characters. The long-running NBC sudser has launched a new original series, Days of our Lives: The Digital Series to compliment ongoing and soon-to-return storylines. The digital series was written by Days of our Lives’ Emmy winning head writer Ron Carlivati and produced by Corday Productions.

The first season of the new digital series premieres Thursday, August 1, on The DOOL App with an eight-episode arc titled “Chad and Abby in Paris.” The first three episodes will be available immediately with the remaining five episodes released weekly thereafter. The episodes will also be available on the NBC app and NBC.com one week after streaming on The DOOL App. Each episode will be approximately 6-10 minutes in length.

“This new scripted digital series was created to complement storylines while enhancing the viewers’ experience as they watch the broadcast show,” said Greg Meng, co-executive producer of Days of our Lives. “The DOOL App serves as our platform for delivering this and other original content to fans who want an interactive and multimedia experience as well as a way to stay connected to the show. ‘Days’ has been a leader when it comes to innovation, going as far back as 1965 when we were the first to broadcast in color.”

The first season of the digital series will focus on fan-favorite characters Chad and Abigail (Billy Flynn and Emmy winner Kate Mansi). These two characters, who are a popular couple on the show, left Salem to reconnect in Paris and have since been off the broadcast show for several months. Fans will be able to catch up with Chad and Abby and see what they’ve been up to in Paris before their return to Salem on the broadcast show this fall.

“I had to come up with a concept, something to enhance the show, connect to the show, but not be totally dependent,” head writer Ron Carlivati told Entertainment Weekly. The scribe says it was logical to use Chabby to launch the series considering they left show to reconnect and were returning this fall. “Anything I did [for the app] couldn’t step on how we were writing them back on the show. It had to be self-contained.” Viewers will see the growing pains the couple experienced while reclaiming their love.

Salem heartthrob Austin Reed (Austin Peck), who’s been in Europe with Carrie Brady for over a year, will make a surprise appearance in Paris. A new character, Juliet (Rachele Schank), will also be introduced to the “Days of our Lives” family.

Carlivati says Austin’s involvement will play up his past connection with Abby. “He’s reeling from a crumbling of his marriage, so he cries on Abby’s shoulder.”

The DOOL App was developed by the Corday Productions team of Greg Meng, creative director (and co-executive producer, “Days of our Lives”); Michael Fairman, content producer; and Maya Frangie, director of communications and strategic initiatives.

The DOOL App is a new all-access platform for Days of our Lives fans to get more of the show they love, including breaking news from the set, exclusive original content, backstage videos with the cast, quizzes and interactive games, fan-favorite clips, weekly recaps and other fun ways to connect with the cast. More information is available at www.TheDoolApp.com.

Days of our Lives fans got a special surprise Sunday evening when it was announced that fan favorites Billy Flynn and Kate Mansi would be reprising their roles as Chad and Abigail DiMera on the lone NBC daytime drama this fall!

When we last saw our beloved couple, they were flying off into the sunset towards their happily ever after moments after declaring their love and devotion to one another after a year of tortuous drama. There is no news yet on how long the duo will be in Salem or exactly what their return is connected to, but the possibilities are certainly endless! While fans of the couple are hoping they are back for good, and others are hoping for a much shorter visit.

TV Source Magazine has reached out to DAYS reps for comment.

Emmy winner Mansi spent six years as Abigail Deveraux from 2010-2016. She returned in late 2018, replacing her replacement Marci Miller.

Billy Flynn first joined DAYS in 2014. The Minnesota born actor would become a prominent fixture in storylines as one of the long running soaps’ male leads. His work earned him two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2017 and 2019.

Days of our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.

ABC’s General Hospital took home top honors of the night by winning the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. A list of winners and thoughts on the broadcast inside.

Streamed live on Facebook, the stars of daytime television including soap operas, talk shows, game shows and children’s programming came out to celebrate their wonderful industry, in which the best of the best is honored for the previous calendar year. Tonight’s ceremony was one of the best in the last decade. It’s a shame the networks who’ll happily run promo spots touting their Emmy success won’t air the ceremony, but fans around the world were still able to watch their favorites be celebrated.

General Hospital won four awards during the event – Outstanding Drama Series, Directing Team, with star Lexi Ainsworth (Kristina) taking home her first Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress and former star Bryan Craig (ex-Morgan) winning his second Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actor.

CBS’ The Young and the Restless won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing Team for work written by former head writer/executive producer Charles Pratt, Jr. Y&R’s stars also brought home wins, with former star Steve Burton (ex-Dylan) winning his second for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Gina Tognoni (Phyllis) for Outstanding Lead Actress. Tognoni’s win is her third overall, with two previous wins for Outstanding Supporting Actress during her tenure on Guiding Light.

Former Days of our Lives star Kate Mansi (ex-Abigail) won her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton (Liam) won for Outstanding Lead Actor. It’s his third win overall, and is the first actor to win the Emmy for Outstanding Younger, Outstanding Supporting and Outstanding Lead Actor.

The evening’s show was hosted by the charming and talented Mario Lopez (EXTRA) and Sheryl Underwood (The Talk), and included many star-studded presenters such as Larry King (Larry King Now), Jane Pauley (CBS Sunday Morning), Susan Lucci, Harry Connick, Jr. (Harry), Margaret Cho, Tim Allen, Blair Underwood (GIVE, Quantico), Trisha Yearwood (Trisha’s Southern Kitchen), Nancy O’Dell and Kevin Frazier (ET), Natalie Morales (The Today Show, Access Hollywood), Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Aisha Tyler (The Talk), Dr. Mehmet Oz (Dr. Oz), Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune), Mark Steines & Debbie Matenopoulos (Home & Family), Chris Hansen (Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen), as well as Tamera Mowry-Housley, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Adrienne Houghton (The Real), Ross Mathews & Garcelle Beauvais (Hollywood Today Live) and Carla Hall and Daphne Oz (The Chew).

Also presenting were cast members from the four daytime soaps, including Bryton James and Mishael Morgan (The Young & the Restless), Kelly Monaco and Donnell Turner (General Hospital), Katherine Kelly Lang and John McCook (The Bold and the Beautiful), and Billy Flynn and Marci Miller (Days of Our Lives).

The search for a new actress to take over the role of Days of our Lives Abigail Deveraux-DiMera is over. EW reports newcomer Marci Miller has been tapped to replace departing fan favorite Kate Mansi.

Miller has begun filming episodes and will debut this fall. Days of our Lives will be her first television credit, though she has film experience, appearing in The Aspect Ratio, Dog Bowl, Most Likely to Die, and is set to appear in Death Race 2050 and Children of the Corn: Runaway.

Kate Mansi, who made her DAYS debut in early 2011, announced her departure last winter. The actress recently revealed that June 24 will be her final episode.

It’s never easy for actors stepping into a popular role, but hopefully fans will give Marci Miller a chance to make the role her own.

The search for Days of our Lives’ new Abigail Deveraux is on! The NBC soap recently issued a new character breakdown for the role, which is expected to begin filming at the end of April.

Though we’re still disheartened at Kate Mansi’s decision to leave DAYS after five years in the role, we understand the show must go on. As DAYS looks for it’s newest star to take over the role of an important legacy character, they lay out Abby’s characteristics in the new breakdown:

“She comes from a loving home, despite her father lack of consistency in her life. Abigail looks innocent and young but can often seems more mature in essence than her 26 years because of the difficulties she’s experienced.  She’s made plenty of mistakes in her life, but she tries to learn from them and has compassion for others. She’s fiercely loyal and protective of her family, and she has a spark and youthful joy that endears her to everyone she meets.”

Days of our Lives is on a production hiatus for another couple of weeks, but hopefully we’ll hear news about the casting soon!
